A winged messenger from the North stands at the entrance to Winter.
A change of season and time for transformation of dark and light.
What will be lost and found in the arrival of the new season?

A winged messenger from the North stands at the entrance to Winter.
A change of season and time for transformation of dark and light.
What will be lost and found in the arrival of the new season?

Wind-blown leaves rustling all around in the late afternoon.
Autumn marches on, stopping for nothing, caring not for us.
May we have but one wish: to have this moment be eternal?

The cacophony of complaints echoes from all around you.
Seeking to drive you to flee, you wait out their impatience.
On this day, the only winning move is not to play their game.

A lonely sentinel of wood, stands facing the dying day.
Their brethren and kin have long since been felled by Nature and time.
Does the sentinel know the safety they provide on this day?

A weathered old corpse of wood remains standing lifeless and still.
Yet life is slumbering within and peering out sleepily.
What thoughts arise in the unknown world between sleep and awake?

Silently observing the world, connected to what we see.
Ever-changing shades of colour and meaning before our eyes.
How much of what we see do we truly know and understand?

Faced with the unknown, decisions made in the present moment.
To confront or to concede, the mind wavers and stalls unsure.
What do we do in our daily lives that is tempting our fates?

A cold Winter afternoon brings a chill, yet you face the wind.
Sitting still, you soak up what little heat the Sun offers you.
Rest and sleep in preparation for tonight and tomorrow.

Out on the ice, you survey the white landscape for your next meal.
A large thing moves in the distance, it too does not mind the cold.
You return to your search on the ice, for smaller things to eat.

Hidden amongst the trees, living, dying, and dead, you are still.
The forest offers sanctuary, but you remain aware.
Others are ever vigilant to expose you to the world.
